Event Status: CANCELLED
Thursday 4th February 09:45 - Wycliffe Big Head 2016 Cancelled
As you might have expected we have taken the decision to cancel the whole of the Wycliffe Big Head.
We have been monitoring the weather forecasts every six hours as the models are updated. Every model have predicted the winds as over 25MPH gusting to 45MPH from the south. This is perfectly in line with the final 3km and the waves will build significantly over that distance. There is a lull forecast for 3am but this would not move enough in the time left to allow one or both divisions to run. The Met Office had been the "best" (ie lowest winds) but this is now the same as the others. The probability of the event being able to run was less than 20% even with the more experienced crews. Therefore we have taken the decision to CANCEL now to help everyone with transport and boat loading.
We do not take this decision lightly as we know everyone wants to get out and race. However, we could get you all there on the day and then say sorry but we do not feel this is the responsible way to run an event.
There will be a 100% refund of the entry fees. Details will be sent out to the schools and clubs to the BROE administrators.
They are run by the Wycliffe Watermen in association with the Wycliffe College Boat Club on the Gloucester Sharpness Canal at Saul Junction.
